Talking To Children About Climate Change

Talking To Children About Climate Change

There is no doubt that climate change has been one of the most talked about topics. With thousands of children and adults protesting in more than 70 towns and cities across the UK and more pupils striking last year to highlight the escalating crisis, it’s clear that this is deeply concerning for ourselves and the younger generation.

A 16-year-old activist named Greta Thunberg found out about climate change meaning the world is getting hotter and hotter by the day causing a detrimental effect on our world with wildfires and rising sea levels.

At Top Chapel Day Nursery we support climate change and we want to talk to you about ways you can help by:

-becoming aware of what climate change is by using the Internet, library services, etc.

-If you can walk, run or even cycle to places such as work, nursery, or even to the shop around the corner. This means less fossil fuel is burnt.

-Maintaining a balanced diet with less meat, there are so many plant-based substitutes out there. (bean burgers rather than beef or chicken)

-Most importantly look after the things you have. Rather than replacing broken items with a new one, think could I fix this? When you are finished with them pass them to your friends or even charity shops

Every little helps and if we all do as much as we can do, we can change the world together.

At Top Chapel Day Nursery we also do our bit by:

-Recycling our paper and plastic food packaging and using these to junk model, not only is this great for the environment, arts and crafts are thoroughly enjoyed in early learning enabling the children to be creative and think critically (characteristics of effective learning-EYFS)
-Recycling plastic bottles and turning them into sensory bottles for the children
-Going organic with our milk! Going organic can have a big impact on the health of your child with their being much fewer pesticides than traditional farming
